Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter, Shiloh, celebrated her 18th birthday on May 27 in an unusual way—by filing legal documents that removed “Pitt” from her last name. Formerly known as Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the dancer is now going by simply Shiloh Jolie, according to TMZ.

This comes after recent reports that Shiloh’s younger sister, Vivienne, has also dropped her father’s surname. Fans spotted the subtle name change on the playbill for The Outsiders, the Broadway musical that Jolie produced and Vivienne worked on as a volunteer assistant.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s Daughter Vivienne Seemingly Dropped Her Dad’s Last Name

Shiloh and Vivienne’s decision to remove “Pitt” from their names is thought to be linked to their allegedly tumultuous relationship with their father. Pitt and Jolie are in the midst of a complex divorce. Since announcing their separation in 2016, Jolie has alleged that Pitt was physically and mentally abusive towards her and their six children—in addition to Shiloh and Vivienne, they are also parents to Maddox, 22, Zahara, 19, Pax, 20 and Knox, 15.

In 2022, she filed court papers detailing an incident that allegedly occurred on a private plane flying from France to Los Angeles. “Pitt grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, and then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her into the bathroom wall,” the filing read. When one of the children reportedly intervened, he “lunged at his own child”. The documents continue, “The children rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other. Before it was over, Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face.”

Just last month, Jolie’s legal team filed further documentation that claimed that Pitt’s abuse began long before this alleged incident.  “While Pitt’s history of physical abuse of Jolie started well before the family’s September 2016 plane trip from France to Los Angeles, this flight marked the first time he turned his physical abuse on the children, as well. Jolie then immediately left him,” the document read.

Jolie, whose last name Vivienne and Shiloh have seemingly chosen as their own, has an extremely close relationship with her children.

“I was 26 when I became a mother. My entire life changed,” she told Vogue in 2023. “Having children saved me—and taught me to be in this world differently. I think, recently, I would’ve gone under in a much darker way had I not wanted to live for them. They’re better than me, because you want your children to be.”
