Naomi Osaka and Cordae are the definition of a power couple.
Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion tennis player, and Cordae, a rapper who began his career in the hip-hop collective YBN, were first linked romantically nearly five years ago. The two 26-year-olds met at a Los Angeles Clippers game and kept their relationship under wraps until July 2019, when Cordae confirmed it in an interview.
In a February 2021 interview with GQ, Cordae explained their decision to keep things private at first: “We were dating for almost a year before people knew about us,” he said. “So we kind of move very reclusively. We don’t really post intimate moments, because I feel as though they’re sacred. A relationship is really a sacred thing. Once you let outside influences get into it, it becomes less sacred.”
The intervening years have been busy for the couple. They support one another’s careers—Cordae makes enthusiastic appearances at Osaka’s tennis matches, while the former World No. 1 celebrates her boyfriend’s music—and welcomed their first child, a daughter named Shai, in July 2023. Later that year, they briefly sparked split rumors when Osaka deleted photos of the rapper on her Instagram accounts, but in InStyle’s December 2023 cover story, Osaka discussed parenting with Cordae and confirmed the two were going strong.
Here’s a look back at their entire relationship thus far.

Osaka also gushed about her boyfriend, calling him “quite a romantic dude.” She told a story of Cordae surprising her at the 2020 U.S. Open when the athletes had to quarantine and her father—her usual tournament companion—was unable to travel with her.
“I started to feel really depressed,” Osaka said of that period. “Sometimes I would call Cordae, and maybe in some of the calls I would cry. I don’t remember. And he flew out [to New York], even though he was really busy. I really appreciated that. I’m not sure if I’ve told him that.
